秋! Autumn, a season for sweets!!

Hi, everyone!

This is yui from Tokyo.

Autumn has come here in Tokyo!

We can see autumn/winter collection in show windows.

BUT! Fashion isn't the only thing changing according to seasons in Japan.

YES, snacks and sweets is another one.

In Japan, we have 4 seasons, and there're many seasonal foods.

Reflecting this situation, we can enjoy seasonal sweets!

What comes up in my mind at first hearing "autumn,"

sweet potato, chestnut, and pumpkin!

Every year, we have sweets in three flavors of these.

The Japan Foundation Awards 2011 ~behind the scene~

How are you doing?

It's yui from Tokyo.

f:id:japanfoundation:20111014153014j:image

Today, I'll report the making of the Japan Foundation Awards 2011!

The ceremony was held in Roppongi, Tokyo this year.

Details of the awardees are on the Website below↓

http://www.jpf.go.jp/j/about/award/11/index.html#01

This is a report of the symposium before the ceremony.

http://www.wochikochi.jp/topstory/2011/11/restructuring.php

The ceremony was broadcasted on the Internet, so I will let you see the behind the scene.

This kind of ceremony is very few in the Japan Foundation's work.

However, in a sense of running the event, it's common in other events of the Japan Foundation.

Thus I'll believe that this report is a good chance to make you know an aspect of our work.

Now, let's see!

The ceremony was in Roppongi.

We have so many guests from various organizations such as embassies, cultural organizations, and companies.

I was at the reception, checking the guests from embassies.

Of course, there were a lot of guests from various countries, so I often cannot hear names in different languages, which makes me realize that I have to learn much!

The photo below is the reception area.

They were having final check of the system at the reception.

f:id:japanfoundation:20111014152320j:image

Staff from the Japan Foundation and the consigned businesses were everywhere, and they were connected with transceivers!

It's so pity that I couldn't take photos, because with a transceiver, some of the staff looked like a character in a drama or film. lol

These are the inside of the hall.

f:id:japanfoundation:20111014152409j:image

f:id:japanfoundation:20111014152433j:image

They were setting the seats for awardees and guests in advance.

Also there were many cameras started to be set at the backside of the hall a few hours before the opening.

This is a receiver of simultaneous interpreting, which is particular to the event in 2 or more languages.

f:id:japanfoundation:20111014152501j:image

Each seat had one receiver.

By the way, the awardees came to Japan for the ceremony, but their schedule was quite tight.

In spite of the short stay, they had interviews by mass media, so they got interviewed a few hours before the ceremony in the room next to the hall.

And actually, arranging of these interviews is also one part of the work of the Japan Foundation staff.

After the ceremony, there was a photo session with all the awardees and the president of the Japan Foundation.

f:id:japanfoundation:20111014152530j:image

Though you cannot see, there were many photographers standing on chairs taking photos from the back.

As photo session finished, it's the reception time.

Moving to another room, guests congratulated the awardees. And sometimes guests get new relationships each other at this kind of reception.

One of the awardees, TUMBUCO, gave surprise performance at this reception!

The performance was very impressive and cool!

Well I reported the backstage of the Japan Foundation Awards, how do you find it? I hope you have enjoyed it.

However, the gorgeous, interesting, or attracting part is just little in the process of managing events, so daily work is full of simple and low key works.

This ceremony is not the exception; the staff in charge did so much clerical work to produce it. Thus in that sense, this report might not be actually "backstage."

Maybe I should write another report to take you to deeper world of clerical work. lol

 Enjoy Cosplay!

f:id:japanfoundation:20110708150826g:image

Hi, it's Amanda again from sunny Sydney. Spring has arrived and we are in the low 20 degrees at the moment.

Well alot has been happening in the JPF, Sydney office since I wrote last time! Events galour!

I'm going to tell you about ANIMANIA.

ANIMANIA is a anime convention held in Sydney twice a year. This was my second time to attend and boy was I blown away by some of the elaborate costumes. The cosplayers just love to get dressed up and take photos of one another. As it goes over 2 days, most people have TWO costumes, one for each day.

I met, the crew from 'One Piece', Totoro, Rei, ninjas, samurais and many more....the wonderful world of cosplay.

There were great food stalls selling Takoyaki,Yakisoba, Toriyaki Ramune, Pokki, tea, the list goes on. The organisers did really well to give that 'Japan' feel to the place. Not only were their stalls to purchase your favourite anime bits and pieces but gaming stations, art competitions, break dancing corner and karaoke! Our booth was right next to the karaoke so we were entertained all weekend by fans blasting out film theme songs!

f:id:japanfoundation:20110919112010j:image:right

Winners from this convention will go to Nagoya for the World Cosplay Championships.

We had an exhibitors stall there, promoting the Japan Foundation, what we do, who we are and getting anime fans also interested in us.

We ran a competition to name out new mascot, she's super cute :)

Everyone got their photo taken with her and then we also posted the photos of the day on our facebook page.

Our language consultants also did a great language session on head office's Anime and Manga website

http://anime-manga.jp/

Everyone really enjoyed playing the games, especially the kanji quizzes. Some high school students were so good at it, better than me:( It's the perfect website for those who want to learn Japanese and enjoy manga at the same time:)

It was a fun weekend!

Susie and Evon will fill you in on more events in their blogs to come...stay tuned!!
