我等が○○ジャパン！ Endearing nickname!

みなさん、こんにちは！

東京では、風がここちよくなってきました。

そろそろ、秋ですね！

Comfortable wind blows in Tokyo. Autumn is right around the corner!

2011年の夏、といえば、日本ではなでしこジャパンが大活躍、一躍人気者となりました。

今もアジア最終予選で注目の的ですよね！

そんなサッカーですが、8月末にフランス・パリで一風変わったワールドカップが開催されていたこと、ご存知ですか？

その名も、

Looking back at summer 2011, Nadeshiko Japan, a national women’s soccer team, has made a big movement and become the nation’s star. They’re now competing at the final round of Asian qualifiers, and many people pay attention to the matches! Apart from such well-known soccer, do you know that a bit different world cup was held in Paris, France at the end of August?

Its name is……

ホームレス・ワールドカップ！

Homeless World Cup!

このワールドカップ、参加する選手はみんなホームレスの方なんです。

Participants in this world cup are all homeless people.

世界64カ国から、自立を目指す選手たちが集まります。

フットサルは彼らが「前を向き、一歩を踏み出す」きっかけになっているそうです。

Players, who aim at being independent individuals, gather to join this world cup from 64 countries around the world. Futsal stands as a good chance for the homeless people to “be positive and step forward”.

たくさんのボランティアで成り立っているこのワールドカップ。

今回の東日本大震災の影響で、日本代表の参加は危ぶまれていたそうですが、

大会本部は日本チームのために募金を呼びかけ、国際交流基金でも少しお手伝いさせていただき、

無事日本チームを送り出すことができました。

This world cup has been supported by many volunteers. The Great East Japan Earthquake endangered the participation of the Japanese national soccer team, but the committee called for donation to support the Japanese team, which enabled the team to join the world cup. The Japan Foundation joined and supported this donation activity.

このホームレス・ワールドカップの日本代表チームの名前は

「野武士ジャパン」。

そういえば、日本代表のチームには愛称がついていることが多いですが、

実はあまり知られていないものもあるのでは？！と思い、調べてみたところ…

The name of the Japanese national soccer team for this Homeless World Cup is “Nobushi Japan”. I hit upon an idea that most of the Japanese national teams have their own nicknames, but some of them might not be widely known?!

So I have checked them out……

なでしこジャパン（女子サッカー）…これはもうみなさん知っていますよね！

NADESHIKO JAPAN (Women’s soccer) … You know this nickname, don’t you?

侍ジャパン（男子野球）…こちらも有名！スポーツに疎い私はときどきうっかり「SAMURAI BLUE」（男子サッカー）と間違えてしまいますが。

SAMURAI JAPAN (Men’s baseball) … This is famous as well! I don’t know much about sport, so sometimes mistake it for “SAMURAI BLUE”.

隼ジャパン（男女バスケットボール）…うん、こちらも最近の女子バスケの活躍で聞いたことがあります！

HAYABUSA JAPAN (Men’s and women’s basketball) … Yes, I’ve heard about this nickname owing to recent women’s basketball success!

さくらジャパン（女子ホッケー）…こういう名前がついていたのですね！

SAKURA JAPAN (Women’s hockey) … I didn’t know there was a nickname like this!

クリスタル・ジャパン（女子カーリング）…チーム青森やカーリング娘の方が聞いたことあるかしら？

CRYSTAL JAPAN (Women’s curling) … Have you heard about Team Aomori or curling girls?

火の鳥NIPPON（女子バレーボール）…かっこいいです！

HINOTORI (FIRE BIRD) NIPPON (Women’s volleyball) … How cool they are!

龍神NIPPON（男子バレーボール）…なんと神様の名前！強そう！

RYUJIN (GOD OF DRAGON) NIPPON (Men’s volleyball) … This nickname comes from the God! Sounds very strong!

フェアリージャパンPOLA（新体操）…新体操のきれいな感じがよくでていますね。

FAIRY JAPAN POLA (Rhythmic sportive gymnastics) … This nickname expresses the elegance of rhythmic sportive gymnastics well.

マーメイドジャパン（シンクロナイズドスイミング）…うーん、確かに！人魚のように美しいですよね！

MERMAID JAPAN (Synchronized swimming) …Well.... Bingo! Members of synchronized swimming team are all beautiful like a mermaid!

トビウオジャパン（競泳）…た、たしかに。そのとおりです。

TOBIUO (FLYING FISH) JAPAN (Swimming) …Su su sure…. That’s right.

と、いろいろとあるようです！

こうした愛称のさきがけは、スキージャンプの「日の丸飛行隊」だという説があるそうです。

There are many like this! It is said that the origin of these nicknames is “HINOMARU HIKOTAI” of ski jumping.

国を代表するチームの名前、日本では

日本らしさ、強さ、そのスポーツのよさが表現できることば＋ジャパンorニッポン

という組み合わせが好まれているようです。

みなさんの国ではどんな愛称がありますか？

In Japan, for the name of teams to represent the nation, the combination of words to express Japanese uniqueness, strength and advantages of the sport and Japan or Nippon is preferred.

中国高校生第6期生が来日しました！！

Chinese high school students invited by JF have arrived in Japan!!

みなさん、こんばんは！

日中交流センターのgoiです。

Hi there! goi of China Center, Tokyo.

私が担当している「中国高校生長期招へい事業」の

第六期生32名が8月30日に来日しました！！

32 high school students invited for “Long-term Invitation of Chinese High School Students” of which I’m in charge just came to Japan on August 30!!

彼らは東京・埼玉で4泊5日の研修を受けた後、

先週の土曜日、9月3日に（台風の中）それぞれの

受入れ先へと散っていきました。

After having five-day training in Tokyo and Saitama, each student departed to their counterparts on September 3 (Sat.) while typhoon was approaching Japan.

ここからは来日研修の模様をちょこっと紹介します！！

I’ll give you a brief introduction about the training!!

日本のことは色々と知っている中国の現代っ子たち。

Young Chinese of today who already know a lot about Japan.

とはいえ、実際に長期間暮らすとなると学ぶべきことは多い。

3日間、みっちりオリエンテーションを受け、日本のマナーを学ぶ。

But there are still many to learn when they actually live in Japan for a certain time of period. They learned Japanese manners thorough intensive three-day orientation.

3日目には実際に街に出て、ボランティアの方と実地研修。

On the third day, they went out for on-site training with volunteers.

どんなに日本のアニメやマンガやドラマを見ていても、

実際の街には知らないことがたくさん！！

They have watched many Japanese amine, manga and drama, but walking around the real city is an entirely different story!!

例えば、日本には女性専用車両があるなんて、

みんな興味津々。

For example, a women-only train car attracted much attention of all of them.

街歩きの後は、グループ毎に発見したことを

壁新聞にまとめて発表。

After walking in the city, each group made a presentation on what they had found through their small tour by making a wall newspaper.

こういうのは中国の高校生は得意みたいで、

短い時間でぱっとまとめて、発表者もすぐ決まる。

Chinese high school students seemed to be good at this sort of assignment. They summarized a report quickly, and a presenter was also decided right away.

日本の高校生、いや、大学生でさえ見習う価値がある。

Japanese high school students, even university students should learn from the way Chinese high school students behave.

という具合に研修漬けの3日間を過ごし、

4日目にはようやく解放かと思いきや･･･、

Like this, the students spent all the three days for only training, and they expected to be free on the fourth day……..

4日目は中国大使館教育処、外務省表敬と

緊張が続きます。なんと過酷な･･･

On the fourth day, they were continuously under pressure such as visiting Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Japan and Ministry of Foreign Affairs. What a pity!

でもご安心。合間にちゃーんと息抜きの時間もありますから！

今年は日本科学未来館で日本の最先端を見学です。

（アシモも見ましたよ！！）

But don’t worry! There was room for refreshment between training programs!

This year, the high school students visited the National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation to view Japanese leading-edge technology (They saw ASIMO as well!!).

ちょっと息を抜きすぎかも･･･！？

It’s too much refreshment…..!?

こうして短い4泊5日の来日研修は終わりを迎えます。

In time, the five-day training in Japan came to an end.

最後の夜は国際交流基金本部で来日歓迎レセプションでしたが、

第六期生は一気に仲良しになったみたいで、

かなりハイテンションでした！！笑

At the last night, a reception was held at the Japan Foundation. The 6th invitees became close at once and got hyper thanks to the reception!! ^.^

そんなこんなで、第六期生32名は9月3日（台風の中）、

それぞれの生活地へと散っていきました。

Leaving such interesting stories behind, the 32 high school students departed for where they would start a new life on September 3.

これからどんなドラマが待ってるんでしょうね。

今から楽しみでなりません！！

I’m curious about what kind of stories will be made during their stay in Japan. I cannot wait to listen to their stories!!

今大学３年生、国際関係を専門に勉強しています。

I'm a junior in the university located in the west part of Tokyo, mainly studying International Relations as my major. をちこちMagazineは、国際文化交流に関する情報を発信するウェブサイトです。

Wochikochi Magazine is the name of the website which transmits the information from

The Japan Foundation.　

毎月特集に基づいてあらゆる分野に関するインタビューや連載記事が掲載される他、

これまで国際交流基金が発信してきた記事をリンクする、「読み物のポータルサイト」の役割も果たしています。

There are interviews and articles, some in serial form, from a variety of fields updated every month. Moreover, it plays the role of the "porter site of reading materials", linking all the other articles that The Japan Foundation has previously posted together.

ところで、おとといお会いした同じくインターン生のOさん、

実は去年の夏休み、アメリカ短期留学のプログラムで

一ヶ月寮生活をともにした方でしたー（ﾟοﾟ)！

イッツアスモールワールド！

Anyways…the day before yesterday, I've met Mr.O, the other student interning at The Japan Foundation.

Actually, he turned out to be the friend I've spent with for a whole month

during the summer vacation last year, both participating in the　same study abroad program in California!

Its a small, small, world！




かのSteve Jobsも「将来なんらかの形で点がつながる」と言っていますが…

どちらも直感と好奇心から参加した短期留学もインターンですが、

これまた振り返れば人生の点としてつながっていたようです＾＾

Quoting from the speech of the well-known Steve Jobs,

"the dots will somehow connect in your future".

It seems as if the study abroad program and this internship program,

both of which I've participated in from sheer curiousity and intuition,

have in some way connected as some of the dots in my life!




ランチタイム(とてもおいしい）の雑談時には、おもしろいお話もたくさんお聞きできました♪（実はこのJobsのスピーチ情報も…）

インターンのお仕事も勉強になることばかりでとても楽しい毎日です！

Chatting with the staff members while eating lunch (very, delicious, lunch)

I've heared many interesting stories♪（including this info of Jobs' speech)

Studying, learning a lot while interning, but having fun at the same time, everyday！
