週末、「あいちトリエンナーレ2013」に行ってきました！

「トリエンナーレ」の言葉のとおり、３年に１回愛知で行われる国際芸術祭です。

Last weekend, I visited the “Aichi Triennale 2013,” 

which is an international festival of art held in Aichi once every three years!

国際交流基金も「あいちトリエンナーレ2013」の共催事業として、

8/11（日）に、国際シンポジウム「現代ケンチクの日本」を開催しました～！

今、日本の「建築」は、 “人が交流する場”を創るものとして、

海外からも高い関心を集めているんです。

On 11th August, the Aichi Triennale 2013 and we, the Japan Foundation, co-organized

an international architecture symposium titled “KENCHIKU / Architecture from Japan.”

12月の日本語能力試験へ向けて！/JLPT is coming in December!

みなさん、お久しぶりです、夏真っ盛りの東京から、ぐーのーが発信します！(・∀・)

さてさて、私のいる日本語試験センターでは、今年の12月1日に実施される予定の日本語能力試験(JLPT)へ向けて、現在準備の真っ只中です！！

Hello everyone! It’s been a while since my last post.

This is Goo-Noo posting from midsummer Tokyo! In my section, Center for Japanese-Language Testing, we are now getting ready for the Japanese-Language Proficiency Test (JLPT) in December!

JLPTは７月と12月試験の年2回実施しており、実施都市は海外だけでも200を越えています！モルディブやコロンビア、セルビアなどでも実施しているのですよ。すごいですよね～！

Being held twice a year in July and December, the test is offered in more than 200 overseas cities, and the number of the site cities is still going up! We do have the JLPT even in countries like Maldives, Colombia, and Serbia! Isn’t that something? 

今年の12月試験からは、マダガスカルのアンタナナリボ、アルジェリアのアルジェ、そしてカンボジアのシェムリアップで初めてJLPTを実施する予定です！

And from this December, we will have test venues in new cities: Antananarivo in Madagascar, Alger in Algeria and Siem Reap in Cambodia.

Well this year, 2012, really flew by. I fortunately have had lots of unforgettable projects and meetings, especially KIZUNA (means ‘BOND’) project. As you may remember (hopefully you remember) my previous Blog posted about KIZUNA

日本語能力試験、バンコクからのレポートです！The JLPT Report from Bangkok !

こんにちは！東京のぐーのーです！2012年第２回日本語能力試験（以下、JLPT）が12月2日日曜日に実施されました。今回の試験は、海外６１の国・地域 ２０１都市と日本国内４２都道府県で一斉に実施され、全世界で約３５．６万人が応募しました。今回の試験から、イスラエルとイランでも新たに日本語能力試験を受けられるようになりました。世界中でこんなにも多くの人が試験を受けているなんて、驚きですね！

Hi everyone, this is Goo-Noo from Tokyo!! The Japanese Language Proficiency Test(JLPT) was conducted on Sunday December 2nd, 2012 in 201cities of 61 countries/regions abroad , and in 42 prefectures in Japan. This time, about 356,000 people registered for it and from this test, Israel and Iran joined as new test sites. It is such a great thing that such a big number of people took the test!

Today in this season of culture (so we say in Japanese), I would like to introduce one cute character. The Japan Foundation finally created so-called　a “yu-ru” character(=a cute and loose mascot of an organization to gain popuparity, )”, named “Jeffkichi” . From still boiling hot Tokyo! 秋が来ない。。。＠東京

はじめまして、早稲田大学のＴです。

本部の情報センターで２週間のインターンシップをさせていただいています。

広報の役割を担う情報センターは常に電話が鳴っているような忙しい部署で、特に今は重要なイベントである基金賞の直前で大忙しです。そんな時期でも、部署の皆さんはわからないことは丁寧に教えて下さり、日々ランチまで企画していただき、色々とお仕事も下さるので、とても充実した毎日を送っています。最初はかなり堅苦しい、お役所的な(？)職場を想像して緊張していたのですが、実際入ってみると、明るく元気な雰囲気です♪

Hello.

I’m a student of Waseda University, working here at the Japan Foundation Information Center through internship program for 2 weeks. The Japan Foundation is the organization I have always always been curious about (since primary school!), so I was very much excited when I heard about this internship program. Everyone here is sooooo nice and working hard every day. Although I imagined the “atmosphere” (Japanese people love this word, “Fu-n-i-ki”) of the office was more formal before coming here, it is actually very cheerful, so I really love it!

さて、せっかくのブログなので、今回は国際交流基金の舞台裏情報をお届けしようと思います（怒られたらどうしよう・・・どきどき）。本部の中で、私が一番気に入っているのが『階段』です。昨年の厳しい節電時期のなごり、だそうですが・・・１階上がるごとに思わず笑ってしまうようなメッセージが書いてあるのです。

By the way, today, I am going to show the inside of the head office where the Information Center is located. My favorite place in this building is stairs. Each floor has a unique poster which really makes me laugh!

楽しくなってきます。これなら節電でエレベーターが使えなくても、毎日明るい気分で過ごすことができますよね。

Aren't they sweet? Apparently those signs are remains from the last year's strict electricity saving after the 3.11 disaster in East Japan. Such strict energy saving is not required now, but many people choose to use stairs this year as well.

こんなすてきな国際交流基金のインターンもあとわずか。しっかり頑張りたいと思います。

みなさん、はじめまして。立命館大学国際関係研究科の中村です。

私は、国際交流基金の情報センターで8月6日から31日までインターンシップを体験中です。

インターンシップでは、国際交流基金賞の業務のお手伝いや広報のお仕事のお手伝いなどいろいろなことをさせてもらい、毎日、新しいことを楽しく経験させてもらっていまーす。

日常業務での電話の取次ぎにはまだ慣れなくて、電話が鳴るたびドキっとします（笑）。

これもいい経験になりました。

メールや文章の書き方、言葉遣い、電話の受け答えやかけ方など、基本的なことなんですが、初めてづくしで、毎日本当に勉強になっています。

職員の中には外国人の方もいらっしゃって、高度な日本語にとても驚きました!!

職員のみなさんもとっても優しくて、職場の雰囲気はとてもいいです。

初めてここに来たときはとても緊張していたので、みなさんが優しく接してくださり、とても嬉しかったです。

実際に業務に携わり、国際交流基金は日本の文化や伝統を海外に広め、日本と海外をつなぐ重要な役割を担っているのだと改めて実感できました。

日本の外交関係を考える上でも、経済や安全保障といったハードパワーはもちろん重要だと思いますが、文化・芸術や伝統等の交流といったソフト面の重要さを改めて感じました。

今回のインターンシップでは、学生では普段経験することのできない貴重な経験をさせていただきました。

情報センターの皆様には、大変お世話になりました。とても感謝しています。

残りの1週間も最後まで頑張り、自分の研究に役立てたいと思います。

Hi, everyone, my name is Aoi Nakamura.

I’m a student of Graduate School of International Relations in Ritsumeikan.

I’m working for the Japan Foundation Information Center (JFIC) through an internship program from 6th to 31st of August.

Now I’m working as an assistant on the project of “The Japan Foundation Awards”, which is one of the biggest projects at the Japan Foundation.

Every day, every action is brand-new experiences for me.

For example, I’m learning how to write business e-mails and answer phone calls…something like that. I’m still not used to picking up phone calls. Every time a telephone rings, I get a little bit nervous. Ha ha!!

However, all the things are good experiences for me, I think.

A Swiss is working for the Information Center. I’m impressed to see him speaking very good Japanese!! All the members here at the JFIC are kind to me. On the first day I came here to work as an internship student, I was very nervous. But I got relaxed quite soon as everyone was nice to me.

I have again realized that the Japan Foundation plays an important role to promote Japanese culture and tradition around the world.

I personally believe that economies and security are important when thinking of Japanese diplomacy, but exchanges in the fields of culture, arts and tradition are also essential.

In this internship, I have experienced very valuable things that I can’t in my daily student life. Thank you so much to all the members of the JFIC!!

I’ll do my best during the last week and bring my experience into my research.

今回は、なんと言っても自分が担当している「キズナプロジェクト」について紹介をさせてください。

このプロジェクトは、昨年3月11日の大震災の復興支援を目的として、世界の1万人規模の青少年が学校交流などを通して震災の理解を深めたり、被災地でボランティア活動をしたりします。

その中で、ぼくは日本とアメリカの2国間を担当しているのですが、日米だけでも、2000人を超える学生が交流するんです！

第一弾として、アメリカの高校生1000人が来日した様子を写真で紹介しますね。

I’m working for the Center for Global Partnership (CGP) where promoting collaboration between the people of Japan, the United States, and beyond in order to address issues of global concerns.

This time, I really want to introduce my project ‘KIZUNA!!’

KIZUNA means ‘BOND’, a project which contributes to “reconstruction open to the world” from the Great East Japan Earthquake occurred on last March 11th through youth exchanges. Approximately 10,000 high school and college students from the mainly devastated regions are invited for the period of a year to engage in volunteer activities and participate in exchange programs.

Among this huge project, I’m responsible for Japan and the U.S part. In spite of only these two countries, there will be over 2,000 students to be exchanged.

Let me show you some pictures of the very first project ‘Short Visit to Japan’ by 1000 American High School Students during this June and July.

みなさん、はじめまして。国際交流基金のたろうです。

埼玉県北浦和にある日本語国際センター（NC）で働いています。

主にセンター運営に関する会計業務を担当しています。時折滞在期間の短い研修や大学生訪問も担当します。

日本語国際センターの醍醐味はなんといっても世界各地から集まる日本語の先生と話せることです。昼休みは日本にいながらにして海外で食事をしている気分に浸れます。

思い出に残っている先生は、インドのプネー出身の先生です。彼は非常に勉強熱心で、昼食を食べ終わるといつも僕のいるテーブルにやってきて、1日1フレーズ日本語の表現を尋ねます。食堂の紙ナプキンに「一期一会」、「千載一遇」、「七転八倒」などを書き、意味を伝えていました。茶道体験をされた際に、実際に「一期一会」の表現を講師の方から聞いたらしく、とても喜んでいました。

バックグラウンドの異なる方とやり取りをすると、当たり前に使っている表現もそのもとの意味や由来を考えるようになります。たとえば、先ほどの「千載一遇」を調べると「載」が「年」と同じで、「1000年に1回出会うか出会わないか」の意味であることが分かりました。相手が自分の国に帰り、その知識が多くの生徒に伝わることを考えると、自分がもっと勉強し、鋭くあらねばならないと思わされます。

Hi! I’m Taro. I’m working for the Japanese-Language Institute, Urawa.

I’m responsible for accounting at the institute. I sometimes help short training courses for Japanese teaching assistants in the United States, and accept university students.

The best part of our institute is that I can make good friends with Japanese teachers from all over the world. I feel like being in overseas during lunch time.

One of teachers I remember is from Pune, India. He was very diligent. Whenever he finished his lunch, he came to my table. And then, he asked me new Japanese phrases or expressions. I wrote down “Ichigo ichie” (only once in a lifetime), “Senzai ichigu” (one chance in a million), “Shichiten Battou” (to roll seven times and fall eight times), and explained to him the meaning of each phrase. When he experienced a tea ceremony event, he heard the expression “Ichigo ichie”. He was happy to hear the phrase since he had already learned it.

I’ve found that I come to think of the original meaning when I interact with people who have different cultural backgrounds. For example, when I looked up for “Senzai ichigu” in a dictionary, I found “zai” meant “year” and “gu” means “to meet”. In Japanese, “Senzai ichigu” means “one chance in a thousand” although the phrase is expressed “one chance in a million” in English. It’ll be nice if teachers tell students what they’ve learned in Japan, which encourages me to study harder and more about Japan and other things.

踊る夏、日本の夏！ / Dancing summer in Japan!

こんにちは、SNS新メンバーの「ぐーのー」です！これから１年、楽しいお話をできればと思っておりますので、よろしくお願いします。

早速ですが、今年の夏のご予定は？　海水浴、キャンプ、旅行、花火、BBQ、高校野球観戦、ソーメン早食い・・・日本の夏は楽しいことだらけですね！

私は先週末、久しぶりに盆踊りに行ってきました。これがまた、すごく楽しかったのです。神社などの広場に舞台を作り、その周りを音頭にあわせて踊ります。まさに日本の夏の風物詩です！！元はお盆の時期に死者の魂を供養するためにはじまったそうです。日本全国で見られ、地域によって差があったりします。

えっ？なぜ盆踊りが大好きなのかって？

まずは、簡単ということです。笑　動きは比較的遅く、振りも単調で覚えやすくなっています。周りの人を真似すれば大抵できちゃいますよ。ダンス△の僕でもできましたよ。

2つ目は、いい運動になるからです。たくさん食べたお腹にはちょうどよいエクササイズになります。休憩もありますが、ちょっと踊っていると、結構すぐ疲れてきます。

　　最後に、何といっても楽しいからです。この踊りは、恋人とのラブ・ダンスにもなれば、友達や家族とのわいわいダンスにもなります。夏の夜に、みんなでくるくると踊り、伝統に浸る。これ以上幸せな夏の過ごし方はないでござる。（←日本の伝統的な話し方）

Anyway, what’s your plan for this summer? Beach, camp, travel, fireworks, BBQ, watching baseball, eating Somen noodles, etc… Japan’s summer has got a lot to offer.

I went to Bon-dace last weekend and I loved it! “Bon” refers to a period in August when families reunite and pray for the spirits of ancestors. Bon-dance is one style of such spiritual celebration, and this dance has evolved into a traditional summer dance seen in what we call “summer festivals”(“Natsu-matsuri”). The styles and music vary from region to region.

With a big stage called “Yagura” in the middle, people lining up in a circle dance counter-clockwise.

Here is why I love Bon-dance.

First, it’s easy! No fancy movements at all. You can just dance like other people around you. Anyone can join and enjoy the tradition.

Second, it’s actually a good exercise for you. Usually there are small food courts called “demise” in summer festivals, so people tend to eat and drink a lot. Bon-dance gives you a break and even though the moves are very slow and simple, it could make you very tired very fast.

Finally, it is a lot of fun! This dance could be love dance with your date, or just fun dance with your friends and family. Dancing in the hot summer night, making good moves, eating good food... There is no better way to spend Japanese summer in a traditional way.

JLPTとはなんでしょう？ What’s JLPT?

私の所属する日本語事業運営部日本語試験センターでは、海外での日本語能力試験の実施を担当しています。

Hi, I’m Tins of a blog team for 2012! I’m a runner who likes running more than anything.

I work for Center for Japanese-language Testing. This section administrates the JLPT* outside Japan. *JLPT is an abbreviation for “the Japanese-Language Proficiency Test”.




直近の試験は2012年7月1日（日）に全世界22の国・地域、103都市で実施されました！

The latest test was held on July 1st 2012 in 103 cities in 22 countries and regions!

従来日本語能力試験は年１回、毎年12月に実施されていましたが、2010年から7月と12月の年２回実施することになり、年間合わせて60以上の国・地域、200以上の都市で試験が実施され、受験者数は述べ60万人を越えています。60万人！！

The JLPT used to be held only once a year, but after 2010, it started to be offered twice a year, in July and December. In 2011, the number of examinees is as many as 610,000 in more than 200 cities in more than 60 countries and regions.610,000 examinees!!!

私たち日本人が何気なく使っている日本語ですが、世界中で一生懸命勉強して、試験を受けている人が毎年何十万人もいるって、ちょっと想像できないですよね？

Can you imagine hundreds of thousands of people study Japanese hard and take the JLPT every year!? Maybe you can’t.

みなさんはご自身のお仕事にどんな思いをもっていますか？

What kind of vision do you have on your work?










「ひとつの世界観が何処かに存在するのではないか。

それは頭の中に誰もが持っているものだと思う。

その世界観は架空ではない。

頭の中にある世界ではそれが現実であり、

その世界を小説家は文書で、ダンサーは踊りで、

映画監督は映像で表現するように僕は絵描きだから絵で表現する。

それが僕の役割であり仕事である」

There may exist a perspective of the world somewhere. You must have it in your mind. The perspective is not a fantasy. The world in your mind is the reality. Novelists express the world with sentences, dancers do with dancing, movie directors with films, and I do with drawings as I am an artist. It is my role and work.






世界的に大人気のゲーム「Final Fantasy」シリーズのキャラクターデザインなどをはじめ、数多くの作品を世に送りだしている、超有名アーティスト・天野喜孝さんのことばです。

These are words by a renowned artist Yoshitaka Amano, who has been producing a number of works such as characters of world-famous “Final Fantasy” series.









2012年のサンパウロで開催されたGAME WORLD 2012でゲストとして講演会と作品展示を行った天野さん。

彼の講演会には本当にたくさんのファンがつめかけ、アツいまなざしを送っていました。

Amano san participated in the lecture as a guest speaker and showcased his works at GAME WORLD 2012 held in Sao Paulo in 2012. A lot of fans rushed into his lecture and listened to his story earnestly.

天野さんはゲームがまだ、今日のように一般的に受け入れられていないころから、ゲームの制作に関わってこられました。

当初、ゲーム制作に関わっていた若い世代は、本当は映像を作りたかったり、アニメーションを作りたかったり、他のものを作りたかったけれどそれがかなわなかった人が多かったそうです。

でも、ゲームはそれ自体がひとつの世界観をもつものです。しかも、映画や絵画とは違って、見る人が参加できる。それはそれは魅力的です。

きっと制作に関わっていた当時の若い人たちもどんどん夢中になっていたことでしょう。

Amano san has been engaged in game production since the time when games were not as popular as they are today. Most of the younger generation of game creators at that time was sort of people who wanted to produce videos, animations and others to be honest but were unable to do it for some reason. However, I can easily imagine that those young creators became increasingly absorbed in game production as the game itself has its own unique perspective of the world. In addition, games are different form films or pictures in a sense that viewers can participate in their world. It is a big advantage!






ゲームはテクノロジーと切っても切れない関係にあります。新しい技術が開発されることでゲームは飛躍的に進化します。

10年前のゲームと、今のゲームを見たら、一目瞭然ですよね。

でも、そのテクノロジーの開発にはお金がかかります。

しかも、ゲーム業界はとてもシビアな世界。売れれば生き残る。売れなければそれで終わりです。

結局、最後に必要なのは「作りたい」という熱い思いなのだと天野さんは語ります。

Games have close relations with technologies. As a new technology has been developed, games advance dramatically. It is clear if you compare the games of 10 years ago to those today. It costs a lot of money to develop a new technology. There are, furthermore, tough competitions in the game industry. You can survive if your products are sold, but you can’t if they are not. In short, the most important thing for creators is passions to “create” something, Amano san says.




天野さんや多くの制作に関わった方々が情熱をもって生み出したゲームは現在、日本という枠を超えて世界中で多くの人たちの心を動かし、愛されています。

そこには、制作に携わる人たちの才能と、「表現したい」という強い思いがこめられているのですね！

Games created by Amano san and many others who have been involved in game production with such passions are now widespread and loved by many people beyond national borders.

私自身、ゲーム「Final Fantasy」シリーズとともに育ってきました。

実はゲーム制作会社を受けてみたこともあったりします。笑

「ひとつの世界をつくる」。

それを見事に実現し、多くの人に影響を与えてきた天野さんはすごいなぁ、と思います。

I myself have been growing up with “Final Fantasy” series. To tell you the truth, I applied for a job interview at a game production company. Haha. I admire Amano san since he has actually crystallized the idea of “Create a world” and been giving a great influence on people.




絵描きや小説家やダンサーにはなれないけど、自分の世界をもって、何か自分なりの方法でそれを表現できる人になりたいな、と目標を与えてくれる、とっても素敵な講演会でした！

The lecture was stimulus enough to bring me an idea that I want to be someone who can express his/her own world in his/her own way though I am not a painter, novelist or dancer.

この「石巻プロジェクト」をブラジルの人にも知ってもらおう。

震災から一年、今被災地ではどんなことが起きているのか、そこでアートは何ができるのか。

Let's introduce this project to people in Brazil!

And let them know what is happening in Tohoku now and think together about what art can do for the devastated Tohoku region.

石巻プロジェクトで仮設住宅に鮮やかな色彩をもたらしてくれたTitiさんが、母国ブラジルで被災地のこと、プロジェクトを通してご自身の感じたこと、得たものを語ってくださいました。

Titi Freak, who had contributed to attaching unique identities to temporary residents and raising the residents’ quality of life through the Ishinomaki project, talked about the disastrous area on the theme of what he had felt and got through the project in his country Brazil.

会場はサンパウロ美術館、サンパウロ大学、パラナ州立博物館の3か所。

まずは国際交流基金が作成した震災後の被災地の様子をまとめたVTRを上映。来場者のみなさんに当時のこと、その後の被災地の復興の様子などをおおまかにつかんでもらいました。

津波の映像や被災者の方のお話に涙ぐむ方もたくさんいらっしゃいました。

Venues were Museu Arte Sao Paulo, Universidade de Sao Paulo and Museu Paranaense.

We screened the short video produced by the Japan Foundation introducing the situation of Tohoku area in order to remind the audience of the earthquake and tsunami and also help them get the image of ongoing reconstruction in Tohoku.

Many of the audience were cried watching the scenes of tsunami or interview to victims.

その後は、Titiさんご本人が用意した作品や被災地、住民さんとの写真を映しながらの講演会。

被災地を目にして彼が感じたこと、住民さんとのあったかい交流のこと、自分の作品が住民さんに受け入れられたときの思い、グラフィティというアートフォームのもつ可能性。

慣れない講演に緊張しながらも、一生懸命語ってくださり、来場者のみなさんはそれに負けないくらい一生懸命耳を傾けていました！

After the screening, Titi Freak gave a lecture with photos of his artworks, scenery and residents of Ishinomaki presented on the screen.

He mentioned what he had felt when he first saw the disastrous area, how he had communicated with the residents, what he had learned from the experience in Ishinomaki where his artworks had been accepted, and finally what graffiti can do as an art form.

He is actually not so experienced as a lecturer, so he was very nervous with talking in front of such a big audience, but he tried very hard to give them a clue to understand what he had experienced in Ishinomaki.

The audience was listening to him as earnestly as Titi was talking.

でもさらによかったのはそのあとの質問タイム。

会場によって来場者の層が異なり、質問の内容もまったく違っていました。

アートに関するお仕事をしている方が比較的多かったサンパウロ美術館では、作品づくりに関する技術的な質問が、

大学生が多かったサンパウロ大学では、アートを通じた社会貢献についてなど社会学的な観点からの質問が多かったです。

来場者からの質問が、石巻プロジェクトの深い部分をさらに照らし出してくれたと思います。

The best part was Q&A session after the lecture.

Types of audience were different in each venue, so questions varied from one venue to another.

At MASP where many of the audience were art-related people, we had more technical questions on artwork production.

At USP with many university students, we had more sociological and academic questions such as how art can contribute to the society.

Those questions from the audience shed light on the deeper part of Ishinomaki project.

最後に、Titiさんのことばをひとつ紹介したいと思います。

At the end of this article, I want to quote Titi's word.

「なによりも、仮設住宅の住民さんに笑顔を与えることができたことが、一番うれしかった」

It is the best thing that I was able to help the residents get back their smile through the project.

私たちが実施した石巻プロジェクトは、被災地で進んでいる数えきれないほど多くのプロジェクトや活動のうちのたったひとつにすぎません。

でも、そんなひとつの活動にブラジル人がかかわっていて、こんなふうに思って被災地の人と心を通わせ、一緒によりよい生活を目指そうとしていることを、多くのブラジルの方に知ってもらうことができたらとてもうれしいと思います。

Our Ishinomaki project is just a small project among a number of projects conducted by various people and organizations.

However, I want more Brazilian people to know that a Brazilian artist has been involved in one of such projects to support Tohoku through communications with the residents in the affected area for the purpose of improving their lives.

今回の講演会には新聞やテレビなどの取材も多く来てくださいました。

少しでも多くのブラジルの方にこのプロジェクトをきっかけに日本に関心をもってもらえたらな、と思います。

Many newspapers and TV stations came to cover our event.

I hope that more and more people would know this project and get interested in Japan!

和太鼓でサンバを刻め！？ Samba with Wadaiko!?

事業のお手伝いでサンパウロに出張中です。

今日は前回に引き続き、サンパウロでの和太鼓公演の報告です！

Bom dia!

This is yui from Sao Paulo.

Now I'm in Sao Paulo to support many events taking place here.

Following the previous article, I'll report on Wadaiko workshop and performance in Sao Paulo.

この和太鼓公演は国際交流基金サンパウロ日本文化センターと、在サンパウロ総領事館の共催事業で、震災後に日本への応援メッセージをくれた学校の子どもたちを対象としたワークショップ、一般向けの和太鼓公演を行ったものです。

公演では、メニーノス・モルンビーというストリートチルドレンやさまざまな事情で施設で育った子どもを含む、子どもたちのサンバ・パフォーマンスのチームと和太鼓グループの「生（しょう）」が共演しました。

The workshop and performance were co-hosted by the Japan Foundation, Sao Paulo and Consulate General of Japan in Sao Paulo in order to express our gratitude to Brazil for supporting Japan since 3.11.

The workshop was only for school kids who sent messages to Tohoku area after the earthquake to cheer up people in Tohoku while the performance was open to the public.

Menios do Morumbi, a samba performance group that includes children who used to live on the streets or have grown up in orphanages performed in collaboration with a Wadaiko performance group, Sho.

公演に先立って行われたワークショップでは、まず生のみなさんがお手本を披露。

子どもたちはビデオや写真を撮ったりしながら聞き入っていました。演奏後には大きな歓声と拍手！

このあと、子どもたちも生のメンバーの方から説明を受けながら、和太鼓演奏の体験です。

わたしも、僕も、やりたい！で大混乱。笑

Before the workshop, members of Sho gave a short demonstration, which was very impressive for children.

They took photos and videos, and after the demonstration it exploded with big applause and cheering.

And then it was time for children to try Wadaiko under the instruction of Sho members!

Everyone wanted to play Wadaiko, so they fell into chaos. lol

みんなとっても楽しそう。

でもやっぱりみんなで合わせるのはなかなか難しく、生のみなさんがぴたっと揃った演奏をするのはさすがだなーと体感しました。

It seemed that children enjoyed the workshop very much!

But it was so hard to put all the sounds together, which made us realize that the members of Sho were surely professional.

ワークショップの後、一般のお客さんを迎えて公演開始！

まずはメニーノス・モルンビーによるサンバのパフォーマンス。

パーカッションに、歌に、ダンスに、とってもにぎやか。

ダンサーの子どもたちはとにかくダンスが上手い！ダンス好きの私にはうらやましすぎるリズム感。。

そしてなによりもパフォーマーの子どもたちの明るい笑顔がとっても印象的でした。

When the workshop ended, we welcomed public audiences!

First, Meninos do Morumbi was on stage and presented samba performance.

They had percussion, singing and dance. So spectacular!

Kids dancers were very skilled and very cool! For me as a dance lover, their remarkable talents were really enviable!!

And the most of all, bright and attractive smiles on the children’s faces were pretty impressive.

そしてサンバのあとには和太鼓。

観客席をとおっての入場から、迫力満点のステージ。

途中には震災時の様子やその後の被災地の様子をまとめた映像に合わせての笛や太鼓の演奏、あたたかい支援をくれたブラジルへの感謝のメッセージに会場は大きな拍手に包まれました。

Following Menios do Morumbi, Wadaiko was on show.

Members came into the hall through the audience. Their performance was overwhelming and amazing.

In the middle of the performance, there was a short video on the earthquake and tsunami that struck Tohoku on 3.11 and the region's status after 3.11 accompanied by Fue (Japanese flute) and Taiko. This performance was to express our gratitude to warm support from Brazil.

最後は和太鼓とサンバの共演！

メニーノス・モルンビーの子どもたちがステージに登場し、サンバのパーカッションと和太鼓のコラボレーションに、さらにダンスと歌がついてきます！

会場はもはや大盛り上がり。

パフォーマンスが終わると会場総立ちのスタンディング・オベーションでした！

思いがひとつになるときは、国境や文化の違いは大きな問題ではないのかもしれませんね。

こういうシーンに立ち会ってしまうと、この仕事はやめられなくなるんだなぁなんていうことも感じた瞬間でした。

At the end of the stage, Wadaiko met Samba!!

The members of Meninos do Morumbi appeared on the stage, which brought the collaboration of samba percussion, Wadaiko, dance and singing. The audience was thrilled and gave a standing ovation!

When everyone's feeling become one, boundaries or cultural differences are not a big problem.

It is for me the most remarkable moment while engaging in international cultural exchange programs.

そばを「つなぎ」、手を「つないで」復興へ

"Connecting" buckwheat flour and water and "connecting" ourselves for reconstruction

いつものことながらyuiです。

Federicaさんの記事によると、イタリアは日本同様、とっても寒かったようですね！！

今日はそんな寒い冬とは正反対にあるブラジルはサンパウロでの事業の紹介をしたいと思います！

According to Federica, it seems that Italy had a tough winter this year!

Today, I will introduce an event in Sao Paulo in summer!

ご紹介するのは、日本食に関するレクチャーとデモンストレーションです。

今回はちょうど震災から一年が経過した3月ということで、東北地方の復興を祈り

仙台でそば屋さんを営む森浩一シェフをお招きして開催しました。

森浩一シェフ　Chef Koichi Mori

場所はSENAC（セナキ）というブラジル国立の職業訓練専門学校のうち、料理を教えているSENAC Aclimacao（アクリマソン）にて実施しました。

リフォームされたばかりらしく、建物はとってもきれいで設備もとても整っています！

The event is a lecture and demonstration of Japanese cuisine.

As 1 year has passed since the Great East Japan Earthquake, the Japan Foundation, Sao Paulo presented this event hoping the reconstruction of Tohoku region by inviting Mr. Koichi Mori who is a chef of a Soba restaurant in Sendai, Miyagi.

The venue was SENAC Aclimacao, which is a national job-training school specialized in cooking.

As the building has been just reformed, it is very nice and clean, and also well equipped!

まずは、そば打ちのデモンストレーションを見る前に、日本食についての基本的な説明をサンパウロ在住の豊田ルミ先生にしていただきました。

Before the demonstration of Soba-uchi (Soba making process), Ms. Lumi Toyoda gave us a brief lecture on Japanese cuisine and manner.

和食の背景となる日本の風土や季節のことや、お箸の使い方などをご説明いただきました。

会場に集まってくださった70人ほどの来場者のみなさんは、メモをとりながら真剣に先生のお話に耳を傾けていました。

She explained Japanese climate and seasons behind Japanese cuisine as well as how to use chopsticks.

Everyone in the hall was so earnest and some of them were taking notes.

お箸の使い方を習ったところで、いよいよお待ちかねのそば打ちのデモンストレーションです！

デモンストレーションでは粉に水を混ぜるところから、のして切るところまで一連の流れを見せていただきました。

来場者のみなさんが感心していたのは「のし」の作業。

After the lecture, it was the time for demonstration!

The demonstration covered all the process from mixing Soba-ko (buckwheat flour) and water to cutting them into noodles.

The most impressive process was rolling out soba dough.

最初は丸くのしていきますが、「角出し（つのだし）」という作業で四角に形が変わっていく様子はまさに手品のよう。

みなさんを「おぉ～」と驚いていました。

He rolled out the soba dough into a circle shape at first, and then making it into square in the process called "Tsuno-dashi"(making corners).

Everyone was surprised and admired that he rolled out the dough so accurately and quickly.

そしてやっぱり切る作業ですよね。

カメラやビデオで撮影をしている人もたくさんいらっしゃいましたが、このときばかりはみなさん立って身を乗り出してご覧になっていました！

すばやく、かつ均等に切っていく様子に感心しきりの様子でした。

Another highlight of the demonstration was cutting process.

Some of audiences were taking photos and videos, and others leaned over and look into chef's hands!

Accuracy and speed were remarkable at this time, too.

最後は、そばの試食タイム。

みなさん、お箸を使ってそばをいただきます。この日のおそばは抹茶がはいった変わりそば。

みなさんおいしそうに召し上がっていました！

In the end of the demonstration, we had a tasting time, which everyone was waiting for!

Today's soba was "Kawari-soba" in which maccha (green tea powder) was mixed. Everyone looked happy eating soba with chopsticks!

最近ヘルシー志向の人が増えているブラジルでは和食は注目されているそうですが、すし、てんぷら以外の料理はまだあまり知られていないそうです。

日系社会があるブラジルで？とちょっと意外なような気もしますが、和食普及はまだまだこれからなんですね！

In Brazil, people are getting more aware of healthy food including Japanese cuisine recently, but sushi and tempura are the only famous foods.

The fact is a little different from our image of Brazil, where it has many Japanese-Brazilians.

Yet it means there is still much possibility to get more Japanese-food lovers!
